Sharyl McFarland

Milwaukee Community Organizer

Milwaukee, WI

Sharyl is a Milwaukee native who is committed to shutting down the Milwaukee Secure Detention Facility (MSDF). Some years ago, her then 17 year old son was forced to spend three weeks in the MSDF and Sharyl witnessed the inhumane treatment of those detained there. Sharyl is a member of the board of Project Return, an agency that helps people with reentry. She also works with the Prison Reform Taskforce of the Milwaukee Inner-city Congregations Allied for Hope (MICAH), Ex-Incarcerated People Organizing (EXPO), and the Outreach Ministry of Resurrection Lutheran which encourages the congregants to write to people in prison. Sharyl’s goal is to assist those who are incarcerated by speaking up and speaking out for them and their families; families are also serving time with their loved ones.
