As the Policy Associate, Hassen focuses on supporting JLUSA’s various national advocacy campaigns that promote policies that positively serve those directly impacted by mass incarceration. Before joining JLUSA, he worked with the Campaign for the Fair Sentencing of Youth to end life without parole sentences for children. He engaged in outreach and sent policy updates to victim family members and individuals with loved ones serving unjust sentences. In the past, Hassen worked with underserved communities in Chicago, focusing on “know your rights” events and voter registration. He also mentored high school and college students of color with an emphasis on leadership and academic success.
