Dylan Hayre

Senior Policy Advisor

New York, NY

We need bold solutions to tackle big problems like mass criminalization and mass incarceration. I’m proud to work at an organization that thinks big, makes real demands, holds hard lines, and amplifies the leadership and experiences of directly impacted people.

As JustLeadershipUSA’s Senior Policy Advisor, Dylan Hayre helps build, assess, and guide the advocacy, political, and policy strategies across JLUSA’s campaigns and initiatives. Combining his experience in grassroots advocacy, litigation, and policy analysis, Dylan works to ensure that directly impacted communities are the leading force in criminal justice reform.

Previously, Dylan served as a prosecutor, defense attorney, and community organizer. His experience working in the criminal legal system and on campaigns motivates his desire to overhaul the system and his belief that reform must be led by directly impacted people. After serving as a prosecutor, Dylan opened a law practice called Lawyer for Soldiers to represent veterans in civil and criminal litigation and to advocate for justice reforms impacting veterans. Dylan briefly stepped away from law to run for state Senate, and despite losing the general election, he used his campaign to elevate criminal justice, public education, and housing reform issues. He then brought his law practice into a firm, where he continued work on veterans issues and helped organize legal advocacy efforts to support reform in the areas of criminal justice and immigration. A son of Indian immigrants, Dylan is committed to fighting for racial and social justice. He has served and continues to serve on nonprofit boards or advisory groups dedicated to this mission. Beyond JLUSA, Dylan is a car enthusiast and serves on the board of a nonprofit car museum.
